It has been rumoured fro a while that Samsung would update recalled Galaxy Note 7 units to limit their maximum charge to 60 percent, however up until now there was nothing official from Samsung. It now seems that Samsung Australia has finally made it official.
Defective Note 7s purchased in Australia will receive an update to cap their maximum charge at 60 percent of the full battery capacity, effectively limiting the battery to 2100mAh. While this is annoying, it might help keep those who are still using defective devices safe.
This should minimise the risk of explosion to allow the user to leave the bomb shelter long enough to have the device replaced. Hopefully, this will roll out world wide very soon.
